FBI Releases New Image of Person of Interest in Brown University Shooting as Manhunt Enters Fourth Day

Providence, December 17, 2025:
Federal investigators have released a newly enhanced image of a person of interest in the deadly mass shooting at Brown University, as the search for the suspect entered its fourth day. Authorities once again urged the public to come forward with any information that could help identify and locate the individual.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation said the updated image is an enhanced version of previously released surveillance footage collected from areas surrounding the Brown University campus. The FBI’s Boston field office shared the image on social media, stating it is working in close coordination with the Providence Police Department and the Rhode Island State Police.

Investigators are offering a reward of up to $50, 000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person responsible for the shooting.

Details of the Shooting

The mass shooting occurred late Saturday local time on the Brown University campus, killing two students and injuring nine others. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspect, nor have they announced any arrests so far.

What the New Image Shows

According to the FBI and NBC News, the newly released image provides clearer visual details of the person of interest. The individual is seen wearing dark clothing, a black face mask, and a beanie. The person appears to be dressed in a two-tone jacket with darker sleeves and shoulders and a lighter-colored torso. Investigators also believe the individual may be wearing a belt bag or waist pack.

As with earlier images, the photo was taken from surveillance cameras installed in areas around the Brown University campus.

Ongoing Investigation

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha told NBC News that investigators have developed a “good picture” of the suspected gunman’s movements before and after the shooting by analyzing footage from nearby homes and businesses. Law enforcement agencies have also released a video timeline showing the person of interest’s movements on the day of the attack, compiled using residential security cameras.

Investigators are canvassing nearby neighborhoods and urging residents to share any video footage that could help advance the case.

Authorities confirmed that one individual was briefly detained early Sunday morning local time as a person of interest, but was later released after evidence pointed elsewhere.

Campus Security Measures

Brown University officials said campus security has been significantly increased, with local and state law enforcement maintaining a heavy presence around the university. Classes and final examinations for the remainder of the semester have been canceled, and many students have left campus amid ongoing safety concerns.

Law enforcement agencies continue to stress that public cooperation could be crucial in resolving the case and bringing those responsible to justice.
