Mohali: March 17, 2026

Recent rain and hailstorms over the past two days have brought a significant change to the weather in Punjab, making the chill felt once again across the state. According to the Chandigarh Meteorological Centre, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain today in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, and Patiala. Additionally, cities like Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Pathankot will remain cloudy, which may cause temperatures to continue to dip.

Meteorological Department data shows a sharp decline of 7.6°C in maximum temperatures over the last two days. The daytime temperature in Hoshiarpur dropped to 17.7°C, while Pathankot recorded 18.8°C. Conversely, Faridkot remained the warmest area in the state at 26.7°C. Weather experts state that a new Western Disturbance is becoming active in the hilly regions today, the effects of which will also be seen in the plains.

Punjab has seen a considerable shortage of rain during March this year. From March 1 to 16, the state received only 4 mm of rainfall, which is 72% less than the usual average of 14 mm. The department has predicted that some parts of the state might experience light rain again on March 18, 19, and 21. Temperatures are expected to fluctuate in the coming days—initially rising by 3°C to 5°C before dropping again due to the rain. This unsettled weather pattern is likely to persist until March 21.
