Major Accident on Yamuna Expressway: 8 Buses and 3 Cars Collide, Vehicles Catch Fire; 4 Dead
Yamuna Expressway Accident:
A massive road accident occurred on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, due to dense fog, leading to a chain collision involving multiple vehicles. Several vehicles crashed into each other and were engulfed in flames, leaving four people dead and at least 25 others injured.
According to officials, the accident involved eight buses and three cars, all of which caught fire after the collision. Many passengers narrowly escaped by jumping out of the buses as flames spread rapidly. Several vehicles were completely gutted in the blaze.
Where and How the Accident Happened
The incident took place near milestone 125 close to Khadehra village, under the jurisdiction of Baldev police station. The vehicles were traveling from Agra towards Noida when poor visibility caused by thick fog led to a rear-end collision. The impact triggered fires, creating panic at the site.
As a result of the accident, traffic on the Agra–Noida stretch of the expressway came to a complete standstill, leading to a massive traffic jam.
Rescue and Firefighting Operations
Upon receiving information, police and emergency teams rushed to the spot. More than 10 fire tenders were deployed, and firefighters managed to control the blaze after intense efforts. Before firefighting operations began, the expressway was cleared and traffic was diverted.
A crane was later used to remove the burnt vehicles, allowing one lane to be reopened for traffic. SSP Shlok Kumar and District Magistrate CP Singh also reached the scene to oversee rescue and relief operations.
Casualties and Investigation
The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals by ambulance. Police officials said efforts are underway to identify the deceased. Preliminary investigation suggests the accident was caused by poor visibility due to fog, which prevented drivers from seeing a stationary vehicle ahead, triggering a chain collision.
Authorities have launched a detailed probe to determine the exact sequence of events and assess whether negligence or other factors contributed to the tragedy.
